Bio

Since he was young, Eyal has been exposed to art and music by his father, Jorge Gurvich, a major Argentinian film maker in Israel. He became passionate and curious to explore music and the drum set when he was 13, which eventually led him to be the youngest person and one of the two drummers accepted to the prestigious ‘Rimon Jazz Institute’ at the age of 16.

While at Rimon, he has studied performance, composition and arranging in a full-time college level environment while completing his formal high school studies. His teachers included world class musicians such as Avishai Cohen (trumpet), Gilad Dobrecky, Matan Chapnizky and Mordy Ferber. He has also been performing regularly with multiple projects in a variety of genres all across Israel, and in 2013, Eyal had the honor of sharing the stage with the legendary saxophonist Phil Woods when he traveled to Israel.

Music has lead Eyal to many places. From performing at the Tel Aviv Jazz Festival (2013) and the Red Sea Jazz Festival (2014, 2015) to auditioning to Berklee College of Music. In 2016, he was humbled to receive a generous scholarship and decided to attend. Since he arrived to Berklee, he has been exposed to endless amount of music from all kinds. Eyal has also deepened his compositional skills and dived into the world of production and engineering. Recently he went on tour in Southeast Asia with the Abacus project, a group that came together at Berklee, and consists of five members from the U.S, Australia and Israel.

Eyal is currently studying Jazz Composition and Music Production & Engineering at Berklee College of Music, where he recently received the Fletcher Henderson Award for Outstanding Musicianship and the Avedis Zildjian Award.
